A definition, because the search for truth is waiting for us.

faith

–noun

1.  confidence or trust in a person or thing: faith in another's ability.

2.  belief that is not based on proof: He had faith that the hypothesis would be substantiated by fact.

3.  belief in god or in the doctrines or teachings of religion: the firm faith of the Pilgrims.

That’s all it is; belief or confidence or trust.  That’s it.

It is not truth.

  1. I like this. Seems there is real confusion sometimes when people mix the two. People with strong faith in their God find themselves in this place often.

  2. I agree with that. Interestingly enough though, this was inspired by reading the book reviews for "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins (I haven't read the book yet). It sounds as if he, as a declared atheist, might have the same problem by confusing his faith in science with the "truth" that god doesn't exist.
